North side is way prettier and has easier access to restaurants/stores/etc, although it can be valuable to be surrounded by engineers on the south side. The room size was fine for me, but I have shared a smaller room my whole life, so it was actually an upgrade for me, and I didn't actually bring that much stuff (at least in comparison to my suitemates).
